Volunteer at MEHS
Anyone can volunteer, but children 15 years or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. When you volunteer at MEHS, you can help walk dogs, socialize cats, or assist shelter personnel with bathing, grooming, and cleaning. Happy, healthy, socialized animals are more adoptable, so these volunteer positions are critical!
We are excited to safely allow volunteers back into our facility with scheduled volunteer shifts! Once your Volunteer Application is processed, you will be contacted to schedule and orientation.
To become a volunteer:
Fill out the volunteer application below and we will reach out to schedule your orientation. Please complete an application for every person interested in becoming a volunteer. If you have questions about volunteering or need assistance, reach out to us at 618.656.4405 or foster@mehs.org.
Adoption Events
We occasionally need volunteers to help at off-site adoptions events. These volunteers will help load and unload dogs and cats into the shelter van at the event, walk dogs during the event, and talk to prospective adopters about pet ownership. All adoption screening will be done by shelter personnel.
Special Events
If you can't commit to volunteering regularly, but would like to help at events as your schedule allows, please let us know! Volunteers are needed at fundraising events include Woofstock, trivia night, bingo, and many other fundraisers throughout the year. People are also needed to solicit sponsorships and auction donations, help with publicity, prepare mailings, and write thank you notes. If you would like to help, please contact us at developmentmgr@mehs.org
